Confederate soldiers from McCormick County were honored for offering their lives and fortunes in what was presented as the performance of their duty, characterized as being true to the instincts of their birth, faithful to the teachings of their fathers, and constant in their love for the South. The monument was presented by the McCormick County Historical Society during South Carolina's tricentennial in 1970.
