Stanley Rural High School was built after classes were initially held in the Christian and Methodist churches and Grange Hall. Its charter roll included school board members J.L. Chaney, R.H. Holmes, and P.L. Kellogg, teachers J.L. Stark, principal, and Amy Kincaid, and students Lawrence Chaney, Wesley Chaney, Herschel Dougan, Clarence Divelbiss, Marlon Divelbiss, Ernest Kellogg, Orville Nicholson, Homer Rawle, Paul Wenzel, Edith Briggs, Opal Crust, Bertha Harsh, Flora Hurdle, Lodema Kellogg, Leota Knoche, Edna Marshall, Matilda Stiftter, Nannie Sargert, Stella Tankerberry, and Oletha Young. The first graduate was Oletha Young Harsh in 1921. In 1965, the S.R.H.S. district reorganized and became part of Southeast Johnson County School District No. 229. In 1970 it was renamed Blue Valley High School, the first graduates of B.V.H.S. were in 1971, and a new high school on 159th Street opened that year, leading students in the district to transfer there. The old S.R.H.S. building stood vacant until 1975, when it was renovated for use as the district office. In 1976, the district was renamed Blue Valley Unified School District No. 229.
