Farm Creek Section, near East Peoria, Illinois, is a geologic exposure where hillside layers from different Ice Age glaciations were once especially visible. In 1879, geologist Frank Leverett recognized it as an unusually clear example of glacial stratification and later documented it in his 1899 monograph The Illinois Glacial Lobe. At a time when such formations were still poorly understood in North America, the site became one of the first scientifically documented examples in the United States. Its study helped give a name to the Illinoian glaciation and shaped regional and national stratigraphic classifications, making it a key place in the history of glacial geology.
