Allen J. Geer, born February 10, 1882, in Howell Township, came with his parents to Plymouth about 1905. He married Hattie Bassett on September 7, 1905, and they had two sons, Stanley and Irving. The Geer family lived in the bungalow next door while operating the store. The A.J. Geer Store opened on December 21, 1912, and sold groceries, dry goods, and hardware. Allen Geer operated it until 1916, when it was sold to C.R. Carson, who ran it until 1922 and then sold it to Charles Trombley, who operated it until 1926. The building measured 20 by 40 by 45 feet, with one side wall longer than the other. Its front faced Ann Arbor Trail, but it was built parallel to Newburg Road. The store was originally located on Ann Arbor Trail just west of Newburg in Section 31 and was part of the Newburg intersection.
