Maybury State Park is a 944-acre recreation area in Northville Township near Detroit, valued for its quiet rural character, meadows, and forest. Its land was once the site of a tuberculosis sanatorium established in the early 20th century and named for William H. Maybury, with more than 40 buildings at its peak. After medical advances reduced tuberculosis and the institution closed in 1969, most buildings were removed and the property reopened in 1975 as Wayne County's first state park. Former sanatorium roads now shape many trails, three doctors' houses survive, and the park and adjacent Maybury Farm together reflect a layered history of care, agriculture, and recreation.
