More than 900 people attended a champagne gala on February 21, 1967, to celebrate the opening of the first theatre in the young city of Pleasant Hill, where the first movie shown that night was "Dr. Zhivago." Originally built for Century Theatres, the star-topped, futuristic dome building was designed by Vincent G. Raney for Syufy Enterprises. Later operating as the CineArts Theatre, "the Dome" provided many years of movie enjoyment and memories until its final showing on April 21, 2013.
