From 1941 to 1945, people from the Town of Monroe served their country in World War II, and Victor Sippin and David P. Winspur made the supreme sacrifice. The memorial was dedicated to them and to all those from Monroe who served, sponsored by The American Legion Post #176 through subscription by the townspeople of Monroe on May 30, 1953.
