Carpenter Mountain is a prominent peak in Oregon’s Willamette National Forest and the Cascade Range, notable as one of the highest and easternmost summits of the Western Cascades and as the northernmost point of the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest. Its summit, a rugged basaltic block identified as an ancient volcanic plug, differs sharply from the surrounding landscape. A fire lookout built there in 1934 has recently been reactivated, and the summit offers expansive views across the central Oregon Cascades, with Mount Hood visible on especially clear days. Though reached by a short trail, the mountain remains relatively inaccessible because of its remoteness and rough roads, and it continues to serve both researchers and lookout use.
