Opened in the mid-1930s as the Davenport Community Center, this building was funded through the Works Progress Administration as the largest federally funded project in Davenport, providing employment for Floridians and helping revitalize the community through a public-use building. Included in the Davenport Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, it was also known as the Fireman's Hall and was renamed the Peter Rust Civic Center in 2019 in honor of Peter Rust, who served as Mayor of Davenport. Used for public voting, local business discussions, and community festivals, it has fulfilled its purpose as a center for community affairs and revitalization.
