St. John’s United Methodist Church, built in 1917 of locally quarried tufa stone, was the second building constructed for the Methodist congregation, Kingman’s oldest organized religious group. Its use of the Roman temple form with six Tuscan columns on a raised podium with pediment metal railings is rare for the Neo-Classical Revival period, and it is the best example of this type in Arizona. Clark Gable and Carole Lombard were married here on March 29, 1939.
