Santa Fe Locomotive No. 3759, a Mountain Type steam locomotive built in 1927 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, was rebuilt and converted from coal to oil fuel in 1941. It ran for many years on the passenger route between Los Angeles and Kansas City, making ten round trips each month, with an average east-bound speed of 54.3 miles per hour and west-bound speed of 60.2 miles per hour, and Kingman served as a water stop on the east-bound run. During its service, No. 3759 traveled a total of 2,585,600 miles and in 1953 made the final steam-powered run from Los Angeles to Barstow before diesel power replaced steam on the Santa Fe line.
