Teepee City was a camp of early buffalo hunters and the only settlement west of Henrietta, north of Fort Griffin, and south of Fort Elliott, now Mobeetie, from 1875 to 1880. It served at intervals as the headquarters of Texas Rangers under Captain G.W. Arrington from 1879 to 1881. The settlement was abandoned about 1886. Nora Cooper, the first white child born in Motley County, was born here in 1882. Pioneer merchant S.N. Armstrong was buried near this site.
