Midway Drive-In
Arts & Culture
Midway Drive-In, a drive-in movie theater in Briscoe County, Texas, was built in 1955 on Highway 86 between Turkey and Quitaque, reflecting its role in serving both communities. It opened during the height of drive-in popularity in Texas, when more than 300 operated statewide, but closed in the 1980s amid the nationwide decline of such theaters. A local resident restored and reopened it in 2000, and after another closure and intermittent use, a family bought, restored, and reopened it again in 2009. By 2011, it remained one of 545 permanently built commercial drive-ins still operating worldwide and the only known Midway Drive-In still operating in Texas.
