Mount Tammany, a 1,526-foot peak in northwestern New Jersey, is the southernmost mountain in the Kittatinny range and forms the eastern wall of the Delaware Water Gap opposite Mount Minsi in Pennsylvania. Located in Worthington State Forest along the Appalachian Trail, it is named for the Lenni Lenape chief Tamanend. Its dramatic position at the Water Gap has made it one of New Jersey’s best-known hikes. The summit is reached from the western slopes by a challenging loop using the red dot and blue dot trails, a roughly 3-mile route with about 1,201 feet of elevation gain that includes bouldering and physical climbing.
