Little Shepherd Trail was part of the setting for Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come, Hell for Sartain, and Trail of the Lonesome Pine by John Fox, Jr., who became famous for eleven novels about the Kentucky mountains and the Bluegrass written from 1893 to 1919. Born in Paris, Kentucky, in 1863, he attended Harvard and graduated in 1883, served in the Spanish-American War in 1898, moved to Big Stone Gap, Virginia, in 1886, had a mining business, and died in 1919.
