A building used for church and school was erected in 1867-68. Morgan Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized in July 1877 in a bowery built for that purpose, with Willard G. Smith as stake president. In 1878, John K. Hall helped draw plans for the present $6,000 structure, built of blue limestone rock taken from the Como Springs quarry by masons George Criddle Jr., Henry Rock, and Conrad Smith. The first conference was held in May 1882, and later the building was dedicated by President John Taylor.
