Big Bald Mountain, the highest point in Gilmer County, rises 4,075 feet in northern Georgia within the Rich Mountain Wilderness of the Chattahoochee National Forest, with its summit inside the Rich Mountain Wildlife Management Area. In the Blue Ridge, it is surrounded by second-growth hardwood forest and deep, black porter's loam common to many nearby mountains. By a 160-foot prominence rule, it ranks as Georgia's 19th tallest mountain. Although U.S. Route 76 passes west of the mountain, no maintained trail crosses the summit, which is reached only by an off-trail climb from Rich Mountain Road, a former logging road through the Rich Mountains.
