Gerald McRaney, a native son of this community, brought recognition to it through his celebrity as a television and motion picture actor. His life was shaped by his heritage, and he returns to his roots each year to visit family and friends. A street here bears his name so that he will be remembered by those who pass by. He received the first Bob Hope Entertainer of the Year Award for service to the U.S.O. and the Audie Murphy Award for Patriotism.
