On November 15, 1958, the first 1.8 mile section of interstate highway in Tennessee opened to traffic. The section, including an interchange, is located at Ardmore, Tennessee, on the Tennessee side of the state line. It cost $1.3 million to construct. Legislation creating the interstate system was passed on June 29, 1956.
