Cascade Mountain, a 4,098-foot summit in Keene, New York, is only the 36th-highest Adirondack High Peak but has become one of the region’s best known because its summit is unusually accessible and open. Before 1860 it was called Long Pond Mountain, but after a landslide split Long Pond and later inspired the names Cascade Lakes and Cascade Mountain, the mountain took on its present identity. Its earliest recorded ascent was made in 1872 by trapper Lon Pierce. A short, steep trail to its bare rocky summit has made it a classic Adirondack hike, though heavy use has caused crowding, parking overflow, and a planned trail relocation still under construction as of 2025.
