Porter Mountain is a 4,059-foot Adirondack High Peak in Keene, New York, ranked thirty-eighth in the range and often climbed with nearby Cascade Mountain. Once called West Mountain, it was renamed for Noah Porter of Yale University, who made the first recorded ascent in 1875 with guide Ed Phelps, linking the summit to the nineteenth-century era of Adirondack exploration and naming. Known as one of the more accessible High Peaks, Porter has long attracted Adirondack Forty-Sixers and strong day hikers. Its significance lies in combining notable elevation, relative approachability, and a clear place in the history of Adirondack climbing.
