William Harris Wharton participated in the Battle of Velasco in 1832, was a member of the Convention of Texas in 1832, served as president of the Convention of 1833, was minister of the United States from 1836 to 1837, and was a member of the 5th Congress of the Republic. He was born in Virginia in 1806 and died on March 14, 1839.
