Hunters Hot Springs
Nature
Hunters Hot Springs in Goose Lake Valley north of Lakeview, Oregon, is a small group of alkaline thermal springs known for Old Perpetual, the state's only continuously erupting geyser. First noted in 1832 by Hudson's Bay Company trappers, the site later became a resort after Harry Hunter bought the property in 1923. Three wells drilled to increase hot water unexpectedly became geysers, though only Old Perpetual kept erupting, at times sending near-boiling water high into the air. The springs' mineral-rich waters and bacterial mats have attracted microbiologists, while the resort and surrounding wetlands have remained central to debate over further geothermal development.
