The Battle of Red Buttes occurred across the North Platte River on July 26, 1865. Headquarters 2d, Corps Area, United States Army later reenacted the battle at Governor's Island, N.Y., on June 21 and 22, 1930, under the command of H.E. Ely, Major General Commanding.
