Brigadier General Theodore J. Wint, a native of Scranton born in 1845, joined the Army at age 16 during the Civil War and spent the rest of his life as a soldier. He fought in the Indian Wars and the Spanish-American War, and served in China and the Philippines. While on active duty, he died in 1907. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, where his grave is adorned with a bronze and granite monument erected by the state of Pennsylvania in 1908. Fort Wint in the Philippines is named after him.
