Franconia Notch State Park is a public recreation area and nature preserve in northern New Hampshire, spanning both sides of the mountain pass through Franconia Notch in the White Mountains. It includes landmarks such as Cannon Mountain, Echo Lake, Profile Lake, Lonesome Lake, the Flume, and the Basin, a granite pothole formed by glacial retreat and long river erosion. The park is closely tied to the memory of the Old Man of the Mountain, whose profile symbolized the state until its collapse in 2003. Known for hiking, skiing, scenic drives, and other outdoor recreation, it remains one of New Hampshire’s most visited mountain landscapes.
