Liberty Garden was created by the South Carolina Department of Transportation in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the nation. Its purpose is to celebrate freedom and liberty and to provide travelers with an opportunity to reflect on these principles and on the will of Americans to maintain them as the foundation of the country. It was dedicated September 11, 2002.
