Across Ohio communities including Kent, Clinton, Canton, and Massillon, Vietnam memorials honor men and women who served in war and peace, remember those who gave their lives during the Vietnam Conflict, and pay tribute to veterans, advocates, and local service members. They include recognition of Joseph W. Juroak, a Lance Corporal in the USMC from 1969 to 1970 and a Disabled American Veterans National Service Officer from 1984 to 2007; Timothy L. Schroder and his friends Curt Blosser, Leroy Gerber, and Art Cobb, who served in Vietnam; and Vietnam veterans of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, especially Michael Paonessa, who gave his life. In Kent, Ohio, citizens and the city honor Ohio men and women who died in the conflict and remember John M. Jackson, Frank J. Moelle, Mark J. DeFrance, Danie L. Starkey, Robert K. Blosser, and Richard M. Rees, as well as William L. Douglas, Jeffery P. Vaughn, and Keith E. Crawford. The Ohio Patriot Guard Riders stand in honor of the 3,095 Ohioans who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. Other remembrances include all those from Clinton, Ohio, who served their country; Sgt. Nicholas A. Casey of Third Battalion Seven Special Forces Group Airborne, killed in action on Oct. 27, 2008; LCPL Thrence Kilbane, born Jan. 31, 1947 and killed in action July 6, 1967; all men and women who served for the freedom of the United States; military personnel who served in war and peace, especially those who sacrificed their lives; Larry Sullivan of SP4 MP CO A 716th BN, a Bronze Star recipient who fought during the Tet Offensive in 1968; and Ted M Doty, USAF, 1968-1972, Vietnam.
