Lotts Creek Community School was founded by Alice Slone of Caney Creek in 1933 after Alice Lloyd sent her to Cleveland, Ohio, for education and she returned home to teach. A year later, she started Cordia High School, uniting the people for a common goal, education. The school included all 12 grades and averaged 200 pupils, with support from gifts and volunteers as well as Knott County.
