Confederate soldiers from the Salem area are honored with special recognition for Sgt. John W. Cannon, an officer of the Confederacy and a highly respected citizen of the Salem area, who was also the last sole survivor of Co. C, 1st SC Regiment of Orr's Rifles. These soldiers fought bravely and honorably for the Southern cause.
