Riverdale (Jensen) was settled by pioneers in 1877, and four years later the first school was held there in 1881. Miss Lydia Maria Chatwin, a native born pioneer of 1868, was the first school teacher at age 13. Her father was an educator in Heber City, and after he relocated to Santaquin and established a school there, Lydia spent the fall, winter and spring months attending and assisting at each of his schools until she began teaching in Riverdale. She first taught the children of the Annis Blizzard and Elizabeth Rasmussen families in a three-room log house that once stood here. In 1886, at age 18, Lydia Maria Chatwin married Heber Richard Wall. They first lived in a dugout and later built a two-story home in Jensen, became the parents of 10 children, and she remained adamant that all children be educated.
