'olołkoy Beach Park in Oxnard occupies a coastal stretch where open lawns meet one of the area's remaining natural dune bands. The site grew from efforts to protect beach lands and dunes, beginning with California's purchase of twenty-six acres in 1979 and expanding by thirty-six more acres through a developer dedication. After a city-state operating agreement in 1983, the area developed as Oxnard State Beach, then passed to the City of Oxnard in 1998. In 2023, the city renamed it from Oxnard Beach Park to 'olol'koy, a Chumashan word for dolphin, honoring the land's original inhabitants. Today it is a city-run beach park with trails, lawns, preserved dunes, and recreational facilities.
