Foothill Observatory, on the campus of Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California, combines college instruction with community astronomy through joint ownership and operation by Foothill College and the Peninsula Astronomical Society. Closely connected to the college’s introductory astronomy lab, it supports a long-running program for non-scientists that serves more than 800 students each year. Its main instrument is a 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope that was donated and placed in operation in 2007. The observatory also serves the public through evening observing on clear Friday nights and solar viewing on clear Saturday mornings when conditions permit.
