Around the 1890s, the Toppenish area had four blacksmith shops that served as hubs of activity. Blacksmiths rebuilt wheels for freight wagons, shoed horses, and made new parts for machinery, keeping the community’s work moving and remaining in memory as the men who kept the wheels turning.
