Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve in northern Alabama, south of Tuscumbia, is a private preserve that protects a diverse canyon landscape of waterfalls, wetlands, streams, glades, and cliffs while remaining open to the public free of charge. It began with a 40-acre purchase by Dr. Jim and Faye Lacefield in 1979 and expanded over time to more than 700 acres before opening to the public in the 1990s. Ownership passed to the Land Trust of North Alabama in 2023, continuing its conservation and public-use mission. With 25.7 miles of marked trails, it remains both a recreational destination and a protected natural area.
