Moon Lake State Forest Recreation Area is a 942-acre public landscape in Plymouth Township, Pennsylvania, centered on a 48-acre spring-fed lake within Pinchot State Forest. Its fields, forests, wetlands, streams, and ponds support varied wildlife and make it a destination for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, bird watching, and nature study. Established in 1968 as Moon Lake Park, it once featured extensive developed recreation facilities and drew large crowds. In the 2000s, use shifted toward trails and lower-impact outdoor activities, especially mountain biking. After county facilities closed amid declining funding, Pennsylvania acquired the property in 2015 and refocused it on quieter recreation in a natural setting.
