Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area is a large natural park in West Tulsa on the west side of the Arkansas River, rising about 300 feet above the water and offering broad views of the city. Established in 1978 with 147 acres, it expanded to about 650 acres by 2023, with another 88 acres added that year. Known as one of Tulsa’s main outdoor recreation areas, it has an extensive trail system of marked and unmarked paths, with national recognition for its trails in 2016. Its importance lies in preserving a substantial wooded open space within the city while continuing to grow and improve public access.
