Warnke Covered Bridge spans Swamp Creek in Harrison Township northeast of Lewisburg in western Ohio. Built in 1895 and 1896 by Everett S. Sherman, it replaced a steel truss bridge damaged by flooding and was constructed as a 51-foot Childs truss covered bridge with stone abutments from the Lewisburg quarry. The bridge took its name from a nearby family and was the last one Sherman built before moving to Richmond, Indiana, where he died soon afterward. Its importance lies in both its local history and its rarity, as only seven covered bridges remain in a county that once had fifty; it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
