During the Civil War, this area was known as Five Forks, and during Reconstruction it was settled by freed slaves. In 1900, Miss Jennie Dean opened a Missionary Sunday School on Balls Ford Road. In 1909, Henritta Page donated this site, and through financial contributions by the Divers family of New Jersey and the efforts of Miss Dean, the establishment of Dean Divers Baptist Church became a reality.
