Emerald Peak is a 12,546-foot summit in the Sierra Nevada of central California, in the northern part of Kings Canyon National Park west of the main crest. Rising sharply above Goddard Canyon, its west face climbs more than 3,500 feet in just 1.5 miles, giving the mountain a notably steep and prominent form in a remote alpine setting reached from the nearby John Muir Trail. Theodore Solomons applied the earlier name “Emerald Point” in 1895 for the summit’s greenish slate color, and the present name was later adopted officially. The first recorded ascent was made on August 8, 1925, by Norman Clyde, Julie Mortimer, and Eleanor Bartlett.
