In North San Juan, founded in 1853 by Christian Keinz, a building served as a Wells Fargo and Company office and holding center for gold and currency from 1854 to 1880, then housed the Block and Furth Company clothing store from 1861 to 1869, a Chinese laundry and store operated by Happy Go Lucky from 1890 to 1920, and a bar and liquor store since 1934, when its first saloon owner was "Ma" Cunningham. The place also honors the pioneer Argonauts of San Juan Ridge, whose labor and fortitude contributed greatly to the wealth and economy of Nevada County, California, and the nation.
