Loreauville's history includes a church-centered early village life along Bayou Teche, beginning when Ozaire Joseph Loreau donated land in 1871 for a church at Fausse Pointe, followed by the creation of a parish in 1873 and St. Joseph's Catholic Church under its first pastor, Fr. Charles Beaubrien of Canada; a church plan later drawn in the 1960s by A. Hays Town was completed more than 50 years later through a renovation based on his original vision. The village also includes Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, bought in Centerville and moved to Daigre Street by Rev. Fr. J.M. Ramel M.S., opening in 1948 for the Black community. Archaeological work since 2013 has focused on locating the original Acadian settlement called New Acadia on high ground near Loreauville at la fausse pointe, where more than 200 refugees led by Joseph Beausoleil Broussard arrived in the spring of 1765 after their expulsion from Nova Scotia; the project has uncovered eighteenth-century home sites, graves, and artifacts, and plans call for a park and museum near the Bayou Teche Bridge. Loreauville also remembers the 1923 Vida Sugar Mill explosion, caused by five boilers and considered possibly the worst industrial accident in Iberia Parish, which killed eleven people, injured sixteen, and led to reconstruction in 1924 before the mill later closed in 1972. Shipbuilding became another defining industry, with Roy Breaux Sr. founding Breaux's Bay Craft Inc. in 1946 after taking over his father's blacksmith shop and later building the world's first all-welded aluminum crewboat in 1957, alongside other local companies. From the 1940s to the mid-1980s, a Tin Man-style water tower stood beside the fire station on Bridge Street. Loreauville also became associated with Clifton Chenier, the "King of Zydeco," who founded the Clifton Chenier Club in the village, achieved national fame as the first Creole presented a Grammy award on national television, and was buried in All Saints Cemetery after his death in 1987.
