Kangaroo Mountain is a summit in the Klamath Mountains of far northwestern California, in Siskiyou County, about 6 miles south of the California–Oregon border. Rising 6,697 feet, it is relatively low for the region and ranks 1,581st among California’s highest summits. Its summit marks the southern boundary of the Red Buttes Wilderness, which is administered by the Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest. The Pacific Crest Trail runs along the mountain’s southern flank, placing it within one of the western United States’ best-known long-distance hiking corridors. The mountain was likely named for the California kangaroo rat.
