Orient Long Beach Bar Light stands offshore from Orient at the eastern end of Long Island, New York, and is locally known as Bug Light because its original screwpile design gave it an insect-like appearance. First built as a screwpile lighthouse and later converted to a concrete caisson foundation, it was destroyed by fire in 1963, though the foundation remained. A replica was later rebuilt on that base, reassembled in 1990, and returned to active service in 1993. Its history of destruction and reconstruction, along with its appearance on souvenir postcards, has made it a distinctive part of Long Island’s maritime landscape and visual memory.
