In this valley, seven thousand thirty-one acres were laid out in 1683 for Charles, Third Lord Baltimore. The land was opened to settlers in 1721 by Charles, Fifth Lord Baltimore. Frederick, Sixth Lord Baltimore, ordered the manor sold in 1766, and the land remaining in 1782 was seized and sold as confiscated British property.
