Swackhammer Church Cemetery served as a burial ground from 1844 to 1915. The church was built by "Stuttering Jake" Swackhammer for the ministry of his uncle, Rev. Lambert Swackhammer, an opponent of slavery and alcohol, and over the years its members were predominantly of the Lutheran faith.
