Grand Lake is the largest natural lake in Colorado. Formed by glaciation 30,000 years ago, it has long been known as the headwaters of the Colorado River. It is included in the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, and water from here flows through the “Adams Tunnel” to Estes Park. The lake has an estimated depth of 265 feet. Native Americans who camped by its shore called it “Spirit Lake.”
