After seizing control of Flight 93, hijackers forced the crew and passengers to the back of the plane, ordered them to be quiet, and claimed to have a bomb. Using Airfones and cell phones, passengers and crew called family, friends, and authorities and learned that other hijacked planes had crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Realizing their flight was part of the attack, they made a plan, voted to fight back, gathered information, and rushed from the back of the plane toward the hijackers and the cockpit. The cockpit voice recorder captured shouts, screams, calls to action, and breaking glassware during the struggle, and as passengers and crew fought to regain control, one terrorist shouted, "Pull it down!" In the flight's final moments, the plane rolled upside down and at 10:03 am crashed into an empty field at 563 miles per hour. On impact, more than 5,500 gallons of jet fuel ignited in a ball of fire that rose above the trees, and people nearby reported a black cloud glittering with bits of metal debris in the bright sunlight.
