Buck King was born in Texas in 1882. His mother was also born in Texas, while his father was born in Tennessee and traveled to Texas, where he met and married Francis. In January 1924, Buck King purchased this 40 acre homestead and an adjacent 36 acres for $300 and soon constructed a wood framed home on the site. He farmed the combined acreage in cotton, corn, and peanuts, and also raised farm animals and fowl. The land formed a divide, with runoffs to the north feeding into Denton Creek and to the south feeding into Bear Creek. Buck King never married, and he and his mother lived in the home until it was destroyed by fire. He then sold the property in March 1942.
