Courthouse Burned
Military
3
Twenty-two Kentucky courthouses were burned during the Civil War, with nineteen lost in the last fifteen months: twelve by Confederates, eight by guerillas, and two by Union accident. On March 21, 1864, Union troops fled the courthouse here as a CSA force came up, and an overheated stove started the fire that burned the building. Guerillas burned many county records on Dec. 4.
